Instructor:

Start
using technology enhanced
formative assessment tools
to enhance learning in your
classroom now in a course
tailored specifically for
middle school teachers.
Assessment comes from the
Latin for "to sit beside,"
but frequently in middle
and high school classrooms assessment
still primarily takes the
form of quizzes and end of
unit tests. Formative
assessment (or assessment
for learning) can change
this. A good formative
assessment tool helps
students and teachers
ascertain where they are
currently in their learning,
and figure out what their
next steps should be,
empowering them to move
their learning forward.
This course will introduce
participants to proven
formative assessment
strategies that can be used
in their classrooms
immediately. Further,
participants will learn how
technology tools can make
these activities even more
powerful.
Coursework will involve
reading, sharing, and
discussing articles online.
A variety of technology
tools will be used including
Haiku LMS, Google docs, and
VoiceThread. Participants
will implement formative
assessment strategies in
their classrooms,
collaborate and share ideas
with other middle school
teachers, and develop a plan
for next steps. At the end
of the course, the class
will have collaborated to
create a collection of
formative assessment tools
that will be ready to
implement in their
classrooms.
